I was assigned to create a hypothetical museum exhibition detailing the history of the Swiss style of graphic design. The exhibition would be held in Penn State’s Palmer Museum of Art, so we worked within its physical perimeters. I worked on this project as a part of a team with my collaborators Aradhana Sood, Sydney Schlabach, and Ryan Cohen.
Process
Working on this project taught me a great deal about working alongside and collaborating with other designers. We spent a lot of our time talking and mapping out ideas for how we could successfully implement this exhibition. We settled on the name ‘Common Measure’ because our goal for the exhibition was to bring awareness about Penn State’s Graphic Design department to other departments across the university. Our goal is to create commonality between different departments and the graphic design department. This concept’s message is incredibly important to us as graphic design students at a large state university.
After establishing our mission statement and completing our research, we created a system that accurately represented Swiss design. Although we divided tasks, we worked on each phase of the process as a group and continuously gave each other feedback and encouragement.
